L.A. Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua took time off from his busy schedule to give back to the community. As part of the Rams’ “Season of Giving,” Nacua hosted a holiday pizza party for families at HomeLight Family Living.
For kids growing up in Inglewood, sports figures like Nacua are a source of inspiration. “They’re my favorite team… because I love how they score. I love how they celebrate,” said Rashad Neal, a local child.
The event was part of Nacua’s effort to spread holiday cheer. “Everybody deserves a pizza party. Everybody deserves a night together to share a slice and to have good memories and have fun,” he said.
HomeLight Family Living offers support to single mothers and their children, many of whom are working to escape cycles of abuse and poverty. Nacua, who was raised by a single mother after his father’s death, said the experience resonated with him. “I come from a big family, so I see all these kids with their brothers and siblings and these moms… it brings me joy because I know that’s what my mom did for me,” he said.
The director of HomeLight Family Living, Ricardo Rosales, explained the organization’s mission: “We provide free housing and services to families, including those escaping domestic violence, shelters, and human trafficking.”
For Inglewood resident Nakia Neal, the event was a reminder of the importance of community. “We all have busy lives, and it’s nice to come together and be a part of a family together. It’s a really good community and fun,” she said.
The kids left with unforgettable memories, including photos and autographs from Nacua.
