A Tesco staff member recently discovered a 17-year-old Chicago Town Deep Dish Triple Cheese microwavable pizza hidden in a freezer at work, sparking a wave of reactions from puzzled customers.
The staff member shared the discovery on Reddit this Tuesday, revealing the “ancient” pizza, which has remained untouched for nearly two decades. The post has left many Tesco shoppers both repelled and intrigued by how the pizza survived for so long without being discarded or eaten.
According to the staffer, the pizza was found “on the piping on the wall” in a freezer, though the specific Tesco store where the pizza was discovered has not been disclosed. While the exact expiration date is not mentioned, the employee believes the pizza dates back to 2007, making it as old as the first iPhone and a time when George W. Bush was president.
Some commenters joked about the phenomenon of “shrink-flation,” noting that the pizza had gradually shrunk over the years. The current version of the Chicago Town Deep Dish Triple Cheese pizza weighs 148g, which is 22g lighter than the 170g pizza from 2007. Based on this, customers calculated that the pizza had lost nearly 1% of its size each year since its production.
One commenter pointed out that the pizza was “older than some of the temps” working at Tesco.
Some users suggested a prank, advising the original poster to place the pizza in a break room and wait for an unsuspecting colleague to eat it. Others suggested it could be placed on sale at a discounted price.
However, the majority of comments urged the poster to eat the pizza themselves.
The original poster has yet to comment further, and it remains unclear whether the pizza was eventually consumed or disposed of.
