Danelli’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, a staple in Oswego for 45 years, will close its doors for the final time on December 29, the owners announced.
The restaurant, located at 228 E. Washington St., has been a beloved fixture in the community since 1985. Originally opening near the Fox River, Danelli’s has earned the nickname “Oswego’s hidden gem” over the years. Owners John and Chris Daniels are retiring, according to a report from Shaw Local.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the Daniels shared their decision to close the restaurant, stating it was with “heavy hearts” that they bid farewell to their customers.
“We want to thank you all for all the wonderful years and beautiful friendships we have formed over the past 45 years,” the owners wrote. “The laughter and memories will stay with us. You were all an integral part of our journey, and your overwhelming support meant the world to us.”
The post has received over 1,000 reactions and 250 comments, with many locals expressing their admiration for Danelli’s food and offering well-wishes to the retiring owners.

You guys have always been so amazing to the Robinson family, and the restaurant will truly be missed. I have so many memories being there. Thank you for all the amazing food and your generosity over the years. I wish you all the best on your retirement.”
Others echoed similar sentiments: “Congratulations on your retirement. Danelli’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant was our official ‘Happy Place’ while we were in Oswego. It was wonderful getting to know you, the family, and everyone else that worked there. The restaurant was small in size, but your amazing food was cooked with love, beating the competition for miles around.”
One final comment read, “Congratulations, many of our firsts here since we moved to Oswego 13 years ago were celebrated at your restaurant. Closing of our house, births of our kids, new cars, anniversaries, and more. We will truly miss your delicious food and great smiles and service every time we visited.”
