TinyBrickOven will stay open thanks to a generous $60,000 donation from Barstool Sports founder Dave “El Pres” Portnoy. The popular pizza shop had planned to close on Christmas Day due to financial struggles.
Portnoy, known for his One Bite Pizza reviews, visited the Baltimore pizzeria and tried a reheated pizza. After tasting it, he said, “This is a reheat, and very good. There’s no way this place should be going out of business, none.”
Curious about what the shop needed to stay afloat, Portnoy asked the owner, William Fagg, how much money was required for TinyBrickOven to remain open for a year. After hearing the answer, Portnoy pledged $60,000 to help.
Portnoy gave the reheated pizza a score of 7.9, joking, “Cost me 60 dimes right there but whatever, I’m a nice motherf-.”
The next day, Portnoy deposited the money into Fagg’s account. Fagg, grateful for the unexpected gift, shared the news. “I did text him a really big thank you. And he texted us back and said I think you’re going to be really busy now. And I was like, yeah, I think so too. The story went way more viral than any of his normal stories.”
Fagg described the donation as a “Christmas miracle.” He added, “I feel like it is man. I believe in miracles still. The timing is certainly, certainly seems less than coincidental.”
