A UK pizzeria is charging customers over $200 for a Hawaiian pizza in a playful effort to discourage pineapple pizza fans.

Lupa Pizza, located in Norwich, England, has listed its Hawaiian pizza on the delivery app Deliveroo for £100 (NZ$220). The pizzeria’s social media post reads, “Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you Monster!”

Co-owner Francis Wolf explained to Morning Report that the stunt started as “a bit of fun” and he was surprised by the response. He added, “We thought it was funny … Obviously, it’s a very contentious issue whether people like pineapple on pizza or not. Personally, I don’t.”

The pricing has been in place for about a week, but no one has ordered the expensive pizza so far. Wolf said, “It sort of snowballed from there. It was just a joke really.”

Wolf believes that pineapple on pizza is a “Marmite issue,” where people either love it or hate it.
