Breadstall Brings Pizza-by-the-Slice to Soho

Breadstall, a popular pizzeria known for its large pizza slices, has opened its second location in Soho. The original Breadstall, founded by Sebastian Vince, first launched as a stall on Northcote Road in Battersea. Although it initially focused on both bakery goods and pizza, the pizza side of the business quickly gained popularity. This new Soho location marks their first permanent pizzeria.

While customers can still order whole pizzas, Breadstall specializes in pizza-by-the-slice. Although pizza slices are a staple in New York, London has been slow to embrace the concept. Breadstall’s slice offerings are already attracting attention in Soho, filling a gap in the local pizza market.

The new spot is located in a development on the lower end of Berwick Street, near the small street food market. It’s an ideal choice for a quick snack in Soho. Situated centrally, it’s equally accessible from Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, and Tottenham Court Road stations.

Grab-and-Go and Dine-In Options

Breadstall offers both grab-and-go and dine-in options. Unlike the Battersea location, the Soho pizzeria features an indoor seating area, which is especially useful during colder weather. The process begins at the front window, where customers can see the pizzas on display. After choosing their slice, the pizza is quickly reheated in a large oven before being served to eat on-site or take away.

Menu Highlights

The pizzeria serves large Neapolitan pizzas made with slow-fermented biga sourdough and thick crusts. Classic options like marinara and margherita are available, but the menu changes frequently, offering exciting new varieties. Some favorites include a New York-style spicy vodka sauce pizza, rocket and burrata, and pepperoni. On our visit, the menu also featured a special pizza with n’duja, gorgonzola, and hot honey. Hot honey, Parmesan, and additional toppings like garlic aioli and n’duja mayo can also be added to any pizza, with the aioli dip being a customer favorite.

Pricing

The pizzas follow a flat pricing system: £7 for a quarter, £14 for half, and £28 for a whole pizza. Special pizzas cost slightly more at £8/£16/£32. Crust dippers are priced at £1.50. While the prices may seem steep, one whole pizza is enough to serve two people, and a quarter pizza is perfect for lunch.

Extras and Drinks

If dining in, customers can enjoy a self-serve soft-serve machine with flavors like fior di latte and hot honey. The in-house lemonade is a hit, and the drink menu includes Brooklyn and Lucky Saint beers, cocktails, and a short wine list starting at £20 a bottle. The pizzeria also has a small bar area where diners can enjoy pizza while watching the dough machines at work.

Breadstall fills the need for a New York-style pizza-by-the-slice restaurant in central London. With its delicious pizzas, easy grab-and-go service, and inviting atmosphere, it’s sure to become a popular spot.
