As Houston faces another round of challenging winter weather, residents are bracing for a storm named Enzo. The storm, which follows a similar event from the previous year, is expected to bring sleet, icy roads, and up to four inches of snow, which is rare for the area. Temperatures will range from 22 to 40 degrees, with wind chills making it feel even colder.
In response to the weather, local restaurants are adjusting their hours. The majority are expected to remain open on Monday, but most plan to close on Tuesday and aim to reopen Wednesday. However, these plans could change quickly, so it’s advised to call ahead before going out.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire has urged residents to stay off the roads during the freeze, citing concerns for public safety. “Please limit your activities and stay home if you can. We don’t want you to risk your life or jeopardize the safety of our police officers and firefighters,” Whitmire said. “Our first responders must remain focused on critical incidents.”
For those without power, the city has opened 10 warming centers, some of which accept pets. Harris County has also provided a list of warming centers, so residents can find a safe place if needed.
As conditions continue to worsen, Houston’s restaurant scene is adjusting to the storm’s impact, with many owners planning to temporarily close and reopen when possible. Stay safe and check with individual restaurants for up-to-date information.
