Il Piccolo Pizzeria is a humble stall located beside the Toa Payoh Central Community Club, where the owner works alone and tirelessly to make pizza dough, lasagna and various sauces from scratch.
The owner honed his culinary skills under the guidance of Romanian-Italian chef Peter Bontoi, who originally founded Il Piccolo Pizzeria and Pizza Pazza, a now-defunct outlet. After learning the art of transforming simple ingredients into Italian delicacies, the stall owner took over the business of the factory canteen near Toa Payoh North Newspaper Centre. In 2011, he moved the stall to its current location after the lease expired.
The menu has about 50 dishes, including various Italian classics such as pizza, risotto, pasta and desserts. Although the food is handmade, the prices are still very affordable. With pizza starting at just $8, pasta dishes starting at $6.50, and cheese risotto starting at $9.50, this is an affordable option for those craving an authentic taste of Italy without breaking the bank.
