A new bar and pizzeria has officially opened in Dayton, Kentucky, offering a fresh dining experience for locals and visitors alike.
Wayfarer Tavern opened its doors on Tuesday in the historic Burton Building at 635 Sixth Avenue. The building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, also hosts a variety of businesses, including Dayton City Hill, a movie theater, and a former Kroger store.
The tavern and pizzeria is led by Mike Dew, a Northern Kentucky native and seasoned restaurant industry professional. Dew is a longtime partner in the Lang Thang Group, known for its popular spots such as Pho Lang Thang, Quan Hapa, and The Hi-Mark.
Wayfarer’s pizza combines East Coast thin crust with a Detroit-style caramelized cheese edge, a unique recipe developed by Dew after extensive testing and travels through places like Los Angeles, Italy, and Philadelphia. His journey included a pizza pop-up at Pho Lang Thang, which later evolved into the restaurant’s permanent menu.
Under Dew’s direction, along with chef Mark Knight and sous chef Jessie Hensley, Wayfarer offers a variety of pizza options. One standout is the “Pickle Power,” which features garlic creamy white sauce, pickles, onions, a three-cheese blend, fresh dill, chives, homemade ranch dressing, and potato chips. The menu also includes salads and snacks like garlic mozzarella sticks, salami, and chicken liver pâté.
In addition to food, Wayfarer boasts a custom bar offering an array of beers, wines, and specialty cocktails crafted with homemade syrups and fresh ingredients.
