In celebration of National Pizza Day, Wedgewood Pizza, a popular Mahoning Valley pizza establishment, donated 40 pizzas to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley as part of its buy-one-give-one promotion. The generous contribution, made by Wedgewood Pizza owner Anthony Pellegrini, will be delivered to the mission over the next several months.
Rescue Mission ambassador Crystal Eckman expressed heartfelt appreciation for Pellegrini’s ongoing support. “Anthony Pellegrini has been a true blessing to this shelter, and we are so grateful for his kindness and generosity,” Eckman said. “We could not do what we do here without Anthony and others like him, who care deeply for those in need.”
This donation marks the third consecutive year that Wedgewood Pizza has partnered with the Rescue Mission. It also coincides with Pellegrini’s milestone 30th year in the pizza business. “We’ve been working together for many years,” Pellegrini noted, recalling how, in the past, any leftover pizzas from his shop would be shared with the mission. “If we had extra pizzas, we would call and ask how many they needed, whether it was for the staff, volunteers, or the people staying there.”
Pellegrini commended the mission’s impactful work and praised the community’s enthusiasm for the National Pizza Day donation. “I’m always amazed at how much support the community shows for this,” he said.
Mike Byers, kitchen director at the Rescue Mission, highlighted the broader benefits of the donation. “The National Pizza Day contribution was a real blessing,” Byers stated. “Not only did those we serve get to enjoy some of the best local pizza, but it also allowed the cook on duty to catch up on kitchen maintenance, while saving us the cost of a meal.”
