Taylor Martin, co-owner of Galesburg Pizza King, is speaking out after a harrowing incident in which she was reportedly robbed at gunpoint while making a delivery last Wednesday night. Martin is calling for answers as she seeks reassurance for her safety and the security of her staff.
The incident took place near Gayle Avenue and Burgess Drive when Martin was out on a routine delivery. Upon exiting her car, she was confronted by an individual holding a gun, who demanded that she “drop the food.” Martin said the police responded quickly, arriving on the scene within minutes.
In a post shared on the Pizza King’s Facebook page, Martin detailed the terrifying experience, though she did not initially reveal her identity as the victim. In an interview with News Channel 3, Martin spoke out as the victim, describing how she feared for her life during the robbery.
“During the terrifying moment, I was thinking about my children and wondering if this was the end,” Martin said. “I will never get that out of my head.”
Martin emphasized that the safety of her staff and customers is her top priority, and she is now concerned about the potential for similar incidents in the future. “Our goal is to make the town aware,” she said. “We haven’t heard anything from investigators about any leads or progress.”
Martin expressed gratitude for the swift response of law enforcement, including the use of drones and a K9 unit to aid in the investigation. However, she remains unsettled, noting that little information has been shared since the incident.
In response to the robbery, Galesburg Pizza King is taking additional precautions to ensure the safety of its team. As a family-run business, the restaurant holds deep personal significance for Martin.
“I have a very, very supportive family,” she said. “This is our family business, and we have very, very supportive customers.”
As the investigation continues, Martin is calling on local authorities to provide updates and strengthen efforts to prevent similar crimes in the future.
