City Pizza, a well-known Ontario pizza chain recognized for its affordable $2 slices, is set to open its first location in Mississauga this spring. The new franchise will be situated at Clarkson Village Shopping Centre on Lakeshore Road, between Southdown Road and Clarkson Road.
Founded in Cambridge over two decades ago, City Pizza has steadily expanded, now operating 17 locations primarily in Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph. The brand has been making gradual inroads into the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with its latest venture bringing its signature pricing model to Mississauga.
City Pizza was established with a mission to offer high-quality pizza at a lower cost than competitors. When it first launched, the owners believed that single slices in the market were overpriced and committed to maintaining affordability.
“A pepperoni slice should not cost $4.00,” the company states on its website. “For 20 years, we offered our revolutionary 99-cent pepperoni slices, which shocked other pizza franchises. Although there is a price increase now, we always strive to offer everyday pizza specials that are low in price but remain high in quality.”
Despite initial skepticism from customers, City Pizza’s pricing model has proven successful, earning the brand multiple “best of” awards over the years.
The company attributes its success to using high-quality ingredients while keeping operational costs low. “We use high-quality Canadian Saputo cheese. Mix that with our freshly made pizza sauce and freshly made daily dough, and you get a high-quality, fresh-tasting pizza pie. We keep the overhead costs low and pass the savings to our customers,” the company explains.
Beyond its popular $2 slices, City Pizza offers a full menu, including unique specialty pizzas such as cheeseburger pickle pizza, chicken shawarma pizza, and gyro pizza.
Clarkson Village Shopping Centre is currently undergoing changes, with several new businesses set to open in the coming months. COBS Bread Bakery will soon join existing retailers such as McDonald’s and Dollarama. Meanwhile, HomeSense is preparing to relocate to Clarkson Crossing plaza, a short distance away.
With its reputation for affordability and quality, City Pizza’s arrival in Mississauga is expected to be a welcome addition to the local dining scene.
