Vermont Company Recalls Over 8,000 Boxes of Frozen Meat Pizza Due to Undeclared Allergen

A Vermont-based company has initiated a recall of more than 8,000 boxes of frozen meat pizza sold at various New England retailers and fundraisers due to the presence of an undisclosed allergen.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a recall alert for approximately 8,220 pounds of frozen meat pizza produced by 802 VT Frozen, headquartered in Newport, Vermont.

The packaging of the “802 VT Frozen MEAT!!! CRISPY WOOD-FIRED CRUST HAND MADE PIZZA” fails to disclose the inclusion of soy, a potentially harmful allergen.

The affected items were manufactured between April 25, 2023, and April 25, 2024, and bear the establishment number “EST. 46308” on the USDA mark of inspection displayed on the front of the box.

These frozen meat pizzas were distributed to fundraisers and retailers across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

During a routine verification process conducted by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), it was discovered that the product contained soy, which was not declared on the label.

Potential allergic reactions to soy, as outlined by WebMD, may include tingling, hives, itching, swelling of the lips or mouth, wheezing, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or skin redness. In severe cases, individuals with soy allergies may experience difficulty breathing, shock, rapid heart rate, dizziness, or loss of consciousness.

While the FDA has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions to the product, consumers are strongly advised not to consume the affected pizzas. Instead, they are urged to discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase.

Consumers who are concerned about experiencing an allergic reaction are encouraged to seek medical attention promptly.
