The Mitchell family took over the property in 2008 while the original owner was still involved in its operations.
The origin of the restaurant’s name is as charming as its lakeside setting. Landan Mitchell, whose family owns Sam’s, shared the quirky backstory: “It started as a joke. They were going to name the restaurant after the neighborhood dog who just ran around the neighborhood. They called him Sam, and that’s how Sam’s came to be because nobody could come up with anything better.”
Since acquiring the restaurant, the Mitchell family has made significant improvements, enhancing both the interior and exterior spaces. “We opened up the inside a couple of years ago, then we added to the outdoor patio. We went through the process and got new docks for boats to pull up to, and it’s just kind of grown,” Mitchell explained.
Sam’s Pizza Pub has attracted a loyal following, including notable patrons like Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman. Pittman, who owns a house nearby, is a frequent visitor. “He started coming in with his wife and his family. They really enjoy coming and sitting out here on the patio and enjoying a meal on the weekends or when he is in town,” Mitchell said.
The menu at Sam’s Pizza Pub is designed to cater to a wide range of tastes. From their signature pizzas, which have retained the same recipe since the restaurant’s inception, to burgers, sandwiches, and salads, there is something for everyone. One standout item is the fried pickles, which Mitchell proudly described: “Our most popular appetizer is our fried pickles. We use hamburger chips and just lightly bread them in flour. Fry them real crispy and they go to almost every table this time of year.”
