FARGO (KVRR) – Duane’s House of Pizza, a Fargo staple since 1975, is preparing for a major transformation. The iconic pizza parlor, known for its legendary pizzas, chicken, and jo-jo potatoes, will soon relocate to make way for new developments.

The restaurant’s current building will be demolished to accommodate the BLOC building’s development. Jim Poolman, managing partner of the investment group that acquired Duane’s, assured customers that while the location is changing, the beloved pizza will remain.

“We’re collaborating with the developers on the BLOC building to create a modern, family-friendly space,” Poolman said. “We expect to complete the new location within the next 8-10 months. The current building will be torn down as we move to the new site.”

Duane’s history began in 1959 when Duane Schultz, a manager at the House of Pizza in Moorhead, acquired the restaurant and renamed it Duane’s House of Pizza. Although the original location is no longer in operation, the South Fargo site, with its distinctive large windows and gabled roof, has become the most famous.

Poolman noted that the restaurant’s rich history contributes significantly to its ongoing success. “I hear stories about how people had their first dates or celebrated special occasions here. The nostalgia associated with this place has always fueled the business,” he said.

The new location will incorporate elements of the original restaurant to preserve its legacy. “We plan to retain some of the Schultz family’s influences, possibly through signage or old booths,” Poolman added. “We want to maintain the nostalgia and brand that have been cherished by the Fargo-Moorhead community.”

District Manager Jesse Schanilec emphasized that maintaining the quality and experience of Duane’s is a priority. “The new location will be very busy, and we are focused on ensuring the pizza is cooked just like it is here. We want to keep the same recipe and nostalgic feel.”

In addition to the move, Duane’s plans to launch a new website and app. If everything proceeds as planned, the restaurant could open its new doors by next April.
