Domino’s has announced the withdrawal of its Garlic & Herb dip amid concerns about possible peanut contamination. This decision follows a customer complaint about experiencing an “itchy mouth” after consuming the dip over the weekend.
The popular pizza chain has advised customers with peanut allergies to dispose of both the Garlic & Herb dip and the Honey & Mustard dip. The warning applies to both 100g pots and the smaller 25g pots that accompany pizzas.
In a statement, Domino’s emphasized its commitment to product quality and customer safety, particularly regarding allergens. They stated, “We have become aware that some of our Garlic & Herb dip and Honey & Mustard dip may contain traces of peanut. If you do have a peanut allergy, please dispose of the dips and do not consume them. If you do not have a peanut allergy, no further action is required.”
A spokesperson for Domino’s confirmed that certain batches of the dips contained traces of peanut, posing a risk for those with allergies. They urged customers to dispose of any affected dips in their homes and assured that the company takes food safety seriously. Domino’s is currently working with its supplier to investigate the issue and prevent future occurrences.
The spokesperson added that there would be a disruption in the supply of dips in the coming days while new supplies are secured. They thanked customers for their understanding during this period.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about allergens in fast food. Notably, last year, 13-year-old Hannah Jacobs died shortly after consuming a hot chocolate from Costa Coffee, leading to an inquest that revealed lapses in allergy safety protocols by the chain.
