Bubba Pizza, an Australian pizza chain, has gained online fame for its new line of ‘Footy Pizzas,’ launched just ahead of the AFL Grand Final.

The Announcement

Amid rising food prices, Bubba Pizza aims to address the increasing cost of stadium food during footy season. To celebrate the AFL Grand Final, the chain has introduced a series of footy-themed pizzas, designed in collaboration with Neil “Towners” Townley, a 67-year-old local footy enthusiast and part-time Bubba employee.

Towners is already well-known in the community through his popular social media accounts, “Prune Masters,” on Instagram and TikTok. His passion for footy and food has led to a viral marketing campaign, with videos reaching over 2 million viewers.

The new menu features creations like the Meat Pie Pizza, Hot Dog Pizza, and Dim Sim Pizza, all available at 17 Bubba Pizza locations for just $10. This pricing offers a stark contrast to the high costs typically found at stadiums.

Since their launch, the pizzas have garnered attention from various media outlets, including The TODAY Show and News.com.au.

“Our goal is to bring back the fun of footy without the financial strain,” said Damian Hopper, Managing Director of Bubba Pizza.

As a family-owned business, Bubba Pizza understands the importance of affordability. “We know our customers value real savings. Competing with larger pizza chains means we must find creative ways to stand out,” Hopper explained.

He added, “While big chains focus on volume, we emphasize creativity and community connection. Our footy pizzas resonate culturally and locally, providing real value to our customers. This personal touch sets us apart in a competitive market.”

Bubba’s pizzas feature iconic Australian flavors, such as beef mince and gravy on the Meat Pie Pizza and South Melbourne Market dim sims on the Dim Sim Pizza. These offerings have resonated well with loyal customers, reinforcing the brand’s connection to Australian culture.

Additionally, Bubba Pizza has successfully spotlighted one of its team members. Towners’ authentic personality and relatable charm have made him a key figure in the Bubba brand story, appealing to Australians across the nation.
