Costco members have long enjoyed the retailer’s food court pizzas, but the popularity has led to complaints about long wait times, forgotten orders, and confusion during the ordering process. Recently, shoppers noticed an upgrade that could make the pizza ordering experience smoother and quicker.
Earlier this week, a shopper shared a photo on Reddit of a new pizza warming cabinet spotted in a nearby Costco food court. The cabinet was mostly empty, but a sign indicated it contained whole pepperoni pizzas, each with 3,880 calories, priced at the usual $9.95.
The Reddit user speculated that customers could grab pizzas directly from the warming cabinet after payment. However, they noted they were unsure about its exact function. Costco has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the cabinets, including their purpose and whether they will be rolled out to more locations.
Despite the uncertainty, shoppers expressed excitement about the potential for a faster and more convenient pizza-buying method. Currently, Costco sells whole pizzas through food court kiosks, but many customers find the wait times frustrating. While members can call ahead to order pizzas, this option requires planning and may not always be practical.
A warming cabinet stocked with ready-to-go pizzas would offer a quicker alternative for customers. One shopper commented on the Reddit post, saying, “Cool idea. It’s difficult to time the pizza right when shopping or coming just to pick it up.” Another added, “If they ever get that in my store, I’ll get one every time.”
This is not the only change at Costco’s food courts. Last month, the retailer introduced a new Chicken & Bacon Sandwich, containing 920 calories. The sandwich features oven-roasted chicken breast, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, bacon jam, and a mayo-mustard sauce on ciabatta bread. While some shoppers criticized the flavor, calorie count, and price of $6.99, it received a generally positive review in a taste test.
