A Boston Pizza location in St. Catharines may face a 60-day suspension of its liquor licence following an incident involving allegedly intoxicated patrons and a fatal car crash.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) reported that several patrons at the restaurant on Ontario Street were served alcohol on the night of December 17 and into the early hours of December 18 last year. The AGCO claims the establishment continued to serve alcohol to these individuals despite them showing signs of intoxication.
After leaving Boston Pizza, the patrons were involved in a single-vehicle crash. One passenger in the car was killed, while another sustained unspecified injuries.
“Bars and restaurants have a duty to serve responsibly in order to keep their communities safe and avoid preventable harm. Responsible service saves lives and prevents tragedies like this one,” said Dr. Karin Schnarr, CEO and registrar of the AGCO, in a statement.
