Pizza Hut is taking steps toward a more sustainable future by introducing new pizza packaging. The chain is responding to the growing trend of eco-friendly food packaging to help protect the environment.

Pizza Hut Vietnam has developed hexagonal pizza boxes made from materials approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This initiative aims to support sustainable forest development. Accesswire praised the Jardine Restaurant Group of Vietnam for its efforts, stating, “One pizza box at a time, they’re helping to protect the forests.”

Pizza Hut Vietnam reported that the new hexagonal box design has reduced plastic waste by over 6,000 kg (about 13,200 pounds) each year. In addition to the pizza boxes, the company is using FSC-certified paper for other packaging items, including takeaway cups and salad boxes, further promoting forest conservation.

To receive FSC certification, packaging must meet strict sustainability criteria. By following these standards, Pizza Hut Vietnam aims to use natural resources wisely, limit over-exploitation of forests, and maintain a balanced forest ecosystem.

While there is no set timeline for global adoption of these sustainable boxes, the successful pilot program in Vietnam raises hopes for future implementation. This initiative is part of Pizza Hut’s ongoing commitment to environmentally friendly practices. The chain began exploring sustainable packaging in 2019 with a round pizza box made from sustainably harvested plant fibers, which is also industrially compostable.

Nicolas Burquier, chief customer and operations officer at Pizza Hut, noted that the round box was designed to enhance the taste of the pizza by keeping it hotter and crispier. “This box is a win-win—it will improve the pizza-eating experience for our customers and simplify the operating experience for our team members,” he said.

Efforts like these continue the trend of seeking alternatives to traditional plastic packaging, helping to reduce waste in landfills and pollution in the environment. Supporting brands that use non-plastic packaging contributes to a greener planet and a safer future.
