Ricky Webster, a former bakery owner from Spokane, has won a prestigious pizza-baking competition in California.
On Saturday, Webster took home the grand prize in the third annual “Perfect Your Pizza” competition, hosted by the Francis Ford Coppola Winery. He impressed judges with his original Sicilian-style pizza, which he paired with Coppola’s Pinot Noir. This winning combination earned him an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy or a cash prize of $25,000.
Dan Richer, a judge and best-selling cookbook author, praised Webster’s pizza. He noted that it demonstrated a strong attention to detail and balance, highlighting how the right wine enhances the pizza experience.
Webster faced off against three other chefs at the winery in Sonoma County, California. As the winner, he will enjoy five-star accommodations and tours in Rome and Naples, two cities famous for their pizza.
“I’m thrilled that my Sicilian-Style Skillet-Based Caponata Pizza took home the grand prize at this year’s Perfect Your Pizza contest,” Webster said.
