Papa John’s, a major pizza franchise with over 450 locations in the UK, has temporarily stopped serving two of its popular dips due to health and allergy concerns. The US-based chain, established in 1984, has gained a loyal following among pizza enthusiasts.
The company has raised alarms about potential traces of peanuts in its Garlic and Herb Dip and Vegan Ranch Dressing, which pose risks for customers with allergies. A spokesperson for Papa John’s, which no longer operates in Teesside, said, “At Papa John’s, customer safety is our top priority. Certain batches of our Garlic and Herb Dip and Vegan Ranch Dressing may contain traces of peanuts.”
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has recently alerted consumers about food products containing mustard powder imported from India, which could be contaminated with peanuts, according to the Express.
The spokesperson added that the 25g dips are included with pizzas, and a new 100g version has been introduced. “If you have a peanut allergy, please do not consume these dips and dispose of them,” they advised.
They also warned that the Vegan Ranch Dressing used on various products may contain traces of peanuts. “If you have a peanut allergy, please avoid these items. We are working quickly to resolve this issue. In the meantime, we will replace the Garlic and Herb Dip with our Special Garlic Dip, which is unaffected,” the spokesperson stated, as reported by Surrey Live.
In light of the ongoing investigation into contaminated mustard powder from India, the FSA has indicated that more “wide-ranging” alerts and recalls are expected. They have recalled various foods and condiments suspected of containing unlisted peanuts.
The recalled items include dips, sandwiches, and salads sold under different brands across various stores, all containing mustard that may have traces of peanuts. Rebecca Sudworth, Director of Policy at the FSA, remarked, “This remains a complex investigation, and we are continuing to work with Food Standards Scotland, relevant businesses, local authorities, and agencies to ensure the necessary measures are in place to protect consumers.”
Customers affected by the Papa John’s recall are encouraged to contact the franchise directly. The company stated, “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
