In a major effort for environmental conservation, Pizza Hut Sri Lanka has partnered with Clean Ocean Force (COF) to adopt Panadura Public Beach. This marks a significant moment in the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems.
This initiative is the first time Pizza Hut, through its local franchisee Gamma Pizzakraft Lanka Ltd., has engaged in marine conservation activities.
As part of the Public-Private (PP) partnership led by COF, daily beach cleanup operations will be conducted at the popular Panadura Public Beach, which attracts thousands of visitors each year. The goal is not only to keep the beach clean but also to foster a healthier marine environment.
The partnership was announced during a ceremony at Panadura Public Beach, attended by important stakeholders. These included representatives from the Marine Environment Protection Authority, the Panadura Municipal Council, and the Sri Lanka Police Environment Division. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from the Panadura Division also attended, highlighting community support for the initiative.
At the event, Yasa Nadaraja, Managing Director and CEO of Gamma Pizzakraft Lanka, and Jerome Fernando, Chairman of Clean Ocean Force Lanka, formally signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to affirm their shared commitment to beach conservation.
Beyond its environmental benefits, this partnership will create sustainable livelihoods for four “Beach Guardians” from local communities in Panadura, helping to uplift individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Clean Ocean Force is excited to welcome Pizza Hut as a partner in promoting sustainability and protecting Sri Lanka’s coastal ecosystems. With Pizza Hut and Clean Ocean Force working together, the community looks forward to a cleaner, healthier beach and a more sustainable future for all.
