Bubba Pizza is spicing up the summer pizza scene with a bold new topping that could give pineapple a run for its money as the most controversial pizza choice.
The Australian family-owned pizza chain has introduced its Ham and Orange Pizza, inspired by Italy’s long-standing love of citrus fruits. The pizza features a unique combination of savory ham and tangy orange, a nod to the traditional Italian use of oranges in cooking.
To celebrate the launch, Bubba Pizza is offering the new creation for free to Italians who show their Italian passports at any of the chain’s 15 locations across Victoria. Non-Italians can also grab a free pizza by simply wearing something orange.
Tony Fazio, the Italian pizza expert behind Bubba Pizza’s iconic dough recipe, initially had reservations about the pairing. “As an Italian, I was skeptical at first,” Fazio admitted. “But the Ham and Orange Pizza is a game-changer. It balances the tanginess of the orange with the savory ham perfectly, and it’s a nod to the citrus flavors Italians have loved for generations.”
Bubba Pizza Managing Director Damian Hopper said the new pizza is more than just a dish—it’s a way to bring people together. “Aussies and Italians might have different ideas about what belongs on a pizza, but the Ham and Orange Pizza celebrates the best of both worlds. It’s fresh, it’s fun, and it’s a little bit daring—just like summer should be,” he added.
The Ham and Orange Pizza will be available starting November 29 and will be on the menu throughout the summer.
Bubba Pizza, which opened in Melbourne over 20 years ago, now operates locations across Victoria and South Australia. The dough is made by hand using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
In addition to traditional pizzas, Bubba Pizza offers creative combinations like the Aussie (with eggs and bacon), the Mexican (featuring jalapeños), and the Dim Sim (topped with soy sauce).
