Pizza Boxes to Tackle Litter

Adams Morgan in Washington, D.C. has introduced special bins outside pizza shops to tackle the issue of pizza boxes littering the streets.

The new bins, which cost $2,000 each, are designed to keep sidewalks cleaner, reduce rodent problems, and help cleaning crews.

Brian Barrie, from the Adams Morgan Partnership, explained that the bins will help organize waste and improve the neighborhood’s appearance, according to FOX 5.

Large pizza boxes, which are difficult to recycle in regular bins, have posed a challenge for local authorities. However, the newly introduced rectangular bins offer a solution.

This initiative started in 2021 after the Business Improvement District (BID) identified a need in the neighborhood, as reported by WUSA9.

Kristen Barden, Executive Director of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID, said the new bins are a positive step. “This is a better solution to organize the pizza boxes. Our Clean Team empties all the trash and recycling cans every day, so this will help organize the boxes better for collection,” she said. The bins aim to reduce litter and streamline trash collection, as noted by Waste360.
