Nell’s Pizza has opened a new restaurant in Greater Manchester, creating up to 40 new jobs. This expansion has been supported by a six-figure funding boost.
The new location is situated at Foundation in Altrincham. The investment came from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II (NPIF II) and was managed by FW Capital. The funding has played a crucial role in the development and opening of this new restaurant, which marks the second branded Nell’s Pizza site. The first opened in 2021 at Manchester Kampus. Additionally, Nell’s Pizza operates eat-in and takeaway slice bars at Common in Manchester’s Northern Quarter and The Beagle in Chorlton.
Nell’s Pizza is a family-run business founded by Jonny and Charlotte Heyes. The name comes from the initials of their children, Nell, Edith, and Lenny. Jonny and Charlotte have been active in Manchester’s hospitality scene for nearly 20 years. They also run the well-known Northern Quarter bar Common, Port Street Beer House, and The Beagle in Chorlton.
Jonny Heyes, owner of Nell’s Pizza, expressed his excitement about the new site. “Nell’s Pizza is a passion project, born from a love of pizza and the joy of baking by hand. Our New York-style pizza is thin, crisp, and large! It’s fantastic to bring our brand to the Foundation, an exciting development for both work and lifestyle. The support from Adam Husband at FW Capital has been invaluable. The funding has helped us gain momentum and take this next step in our growth.”
He also acknowledged the challenges the hospitality sector has faced in recent years, including inflation, a decline in consumer confidence, and the effects of COVID-19. Despite these challenges, Jonny remains optimistic. “We’re doing well at Nell’s Pizza and excited for the future. The opening of this restaurant also brings 40 new jobs to the area, which is a boost for the local economy.”
Adam Husband, senior investment executive at FW Capital, praised the growth of Nell’s Pizza. “The business is on an impressive growth trajectory, and their pizzas are delicious. I’m looking forward to seeing how it expands, especially after the successful launch in Altrincham. The NPIF II funding helps businesses unlock growth quickly, and we were able to provide the financial support Jonny needed within a tight timeframe.”
Sue Barnard, senior manager at the British Business Bank, added, “The NPIF II offers northern hospitality businesses access to funding that was not available under previous schemes. It’s great to see entrepreneurs like Jonny and Charlotte benefit from this. £2m of the fund has already been invested in hospitality, and we’re delighted to support Nell’s Pizza in their new Altrincham location.”
