L&B Spumoni Gardens, a Brooklyn icon, has opened its second location after 85 years of serving its famous Sicilian pizza and spumoni from its original Gravesend spot.
The new pizzeria, located at 46 Old Fulton St. in Dumbo, marks a significant milestone for the family-owned business. L&B Spumoni Gardens has been a staple in Brooklyn since 1939.
Charlie Cavallo, the general manager of the Dumbo location, highlighted the importance of the expansion. “It’s the second location after 85 years. They wanted to expand their family name, and it was time,” Cavallo said.
The Dumbo location aims to bring the same success as the original, serving its signature “upside-down” Sicilian pizza and homemade spumoni. Cavallo explained what makes L&B Spumoni Gardens unique. “We’re famous for two things: our upside-down Sicilian pie, with cheese on the bottom and sauce on top, and our Spumoni,” he said.
Customers are already praising the pizza. One customer noted, “It’s different, not too heavy. I like the flavor and the sauce a lot.” Another said, “I love the Sicilian, the sauce on top, the parmesan, and the fresh mozzarella on the bottom. It’s great.”
Despite competition from other popular pizzerias nearby, L&B Spumoni Gardens is confident in its unique offerings. Cavallo pointed out, “Most pizzerias around here use brick ovens. We use gas ovens, and we bake at different temperatures.”
As a good luck gesture, the staff has displayed a “Best Wishes” sign on a dollar bill from the FDNY on the wall, adding a personal touch to the new location.
The Dumbo location of L&B Spumoni Gardens is now open seven days a week, starting at 11 a.m.
Cavallo assured that the pizzeria will maintain the high standards that have made L&B a Brooklyn favorite. “We have an excellent product, and we definitely stand by it,” he said.
