Tyeger’s Pizza Parlour served its final pizzas before Christmas to thank the community and honor Tyeger Walton’s late wife, Amy.
In a post on the pizzeria’s Facebook page, Walton shared that the future of the business was uncertain following Amy’s sudden medical emergency.
“My wife Amy suffered a spontaneous brain bleed last Friday night. She’s been in the ICU in Ft. Wayne since then. We appreciate the support, but it’s a day-to-day situation with no real good outlook,” Walton wrote.
Amy Walton passed away due to the medical condition, and the restaurant announced that its final dinner services would take place on December 23 and 24.
Tye Walton, co-owner of Tyeger’s Pizza Parlour, explained that he couldn’t continue the business without his wife.
“We opened this place together,” Walton said. “It just wouldn’t be the same without her.”
Tyeger’s Pizza Parlour opened in 2008, inspired by a vacation to Ireland. Walton and his wife, both with Irish roots, noticed the lack of local pizzerias in their area. They decided to open their own, focusing on offering something different from the chain restaurants.
“We wanted to create a neighborhood pizza place,” Walton said. “It was all about representing our community.”
Monday night, Walton honored his wife by serving the Meatloaf pizza, a favorite made with her personal recipe.
“My wife was the brains behind everything. She came up with all the pizza recipes. I was just the face,” he said.
The final dinner service was also Walton’s way of giving back to the community during the holiday season.
“We wanted to serve the community one last time before Christmas,” Walton said. “We had our Christmas three days early, and we’re thankful for the opportunity to share that with others.”
The pizzeria was packed on Monday, with customers lining up to support Walton and his family.
“It’s been tough for them, but it’s great to see the community come together,” said customer Johnathan Huffman. “Everyone is here to support them.”
Walton expressed his gratitude for the support, saying, “I’m just so proud to be a part of such a great community.”
Tyeger’s Pizza Parlour will serve its final dinner from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, at 931 N Main Street in Bluffton.
