After a brief holiday break, Reel Pizza is set to reopen on Friday, ready to offer entertainment and comfort food throughout the winter months.
The cinema and pizzeria will operate from Friday through Tuesday during the season, welcoming locals and visitors alike.
“We love having the locals come in,” said co-owner Lisa Vincenty, emphasizing the joy of connecting with the community during winter. “It seems like people enjoy coming in and having a show to experience together.”
Lisa and her husband, Chris Vincenty, highlighted changes made during the pandemic that continue to benefit patrons, such as the online ticketing system. “There is no more driving here in the snow and having a show be sold out,” Lisa explained. “People now know they have a seat and where they are sitting. Even visitors from away can have peace of mind. That was a key improvement.”
Chris reflected on Reel Pizza’s mission, especially during the challenges of the pandemic, and now as a year-round business. “We serve this community, and it’s our responsibility to keep that community engaged and connected,” he said. “People depend on businesses like ours to bring cohesiveness to the community.”
On its opening day, Reel Pizza will feature screenings of Moana 2 and Gladiators II. Takeout pizza will also be available, adding to the cozy winter experience.
Speaking about the winter audience, Chris shared his appreciation for the locals. “It’s mostly local folk in the winter—people from the island, Ellsworth, Bangor, and further Downeast. We love seeing everyone and catching up with how they’re doing.”
Reel Pizza has been a cornerstone of the Bar Harbor community for more than 20 years. “Our 30th birthday will be in June,” Lisa noted proudly.
The venue is more than just a cinema; it serves as a hub for community events. From movie screenings tailored for seniors to partnerships with organizations like the Summer Festival of the Arts and the Historical Society, Reel Pizza provides a welcoming space for all. Local artwork is displayed on its walls, often available for purchase.
Looking ahead, the owners plan to host events and weekly movie showings for the local community throughout the winter season.
