A new pizzeria is set to open in Adelaide’s east. Rosie’s Pizzeria will make its debut in Kensington Gardens in mid to late January. The restaurant will take over the space previously occupied by Sunny Bakery, which closed in September 2020. Located in the Erindale Shopping Centre on Kensington Road, Rosie’s will bring authentic Neapolitan pizza to the area.
The man behind the venture is José, a 38-year-old engineer-turned-pizza maker. Originally from Argentina, José’s journey to opening a pizzeria in Adelaide has been unconventional. He moved to Australia two and a half years ago, and during the COVID-19 lockdown, he began making pizzas at home. That experience sparked his decision to pursue pizza making as a career.
José’s newfound passion led him to study the craft and train with professional pizza makers in Italy. After gaining experience in Adelaide, he decided to open his own pizzeria. The menu at Rosie’s will feature both traditional and creative pizzas, including classic Neapolitan options like pepperoni and capricciosa, as well as adventurous choices like quattro formaggi and monthly specials.
In addition to Neapolitan-style pizza with soft, chewy crusts, Rosie’s will offer an Australian-style thin crust pizza to cater to local preferences. The pizzeria will also serve starters such as Neapolitan arancini, along with desserts like tiramisu, Nutella pizza, and dulce de leche. Rosie’s has also secured a liquor license and will offer a selection of imported beers, including Italian Peroni and Asahi from Japan.
José is working alongside his business partner, Nicholas, a 23-year-old local who has become an integral part of the team. Although the pizzeria will primarily operate as a takeaway spot with limited indoor seating, the pair plans to expand into catering in the future.
A soft opening is planned for later this month, with $10 pizzas likely on offer. The official opening will follow shortly after. José is excited to introduce authentic Neapolitan pizza to Adelaide’s food scene, noting the buzz surrounding the new pizzeria.
Although still in its early stages, Rosie’s Pizzeria has already been offered the chance to open a second location near the Adelaide CBD. However, José and Nicholas are focused on establishing a strong customer base at their first location before expanding further.
With construction nearing completion and an impressive gold-plated wood oven installed, Rosie’s is expected to become a popular local hotspot.
