Gordon Ramsay, the celebrated chef with 17 Michelin stars, is known for his refined taste. He has traveled the world tasting the best dishes and has a deep appreciation for quality food. Despite his prestigious career, Ramsay enjoys comfort food like the rest of us and knows a good pizza when he sees one.
Ramsay even owns a chain of pizza restaurants, but there’s one topping he refuses to put on his pizza: pineapple. The debate over pineapple as a pizza topping has been ongoing, and Ramsay’s opinion on the matter is well-known. As a chef with an expert understanding of flavor combinations, it’s easy to see why he holds such strong views on the topic.
So, what’s Ramsay’s issue with pineapple on pizza?
According to a YouGov survey, 6% of Americans say pineapple is their least favorite pizza topping, placing Ramsay in the minority on this matter. While many people enjoy the combination of pineapple and Canadian bacon, Ramsay has made it clear that he does not share this preference. In a 2017 episode of The Nightly Show, Ramsay ordered pizza and, when asked by the audience for topping suggestions, he sharply reacted to the shout of “pineapple.” In typical Ramsay fashion, he made his dislike for the fruit on pizza known with colorful language.
Adding to his stance, Ramsay tweeted (on X) that “pineapple does not go on top of pizza.” However, his chain of Street Pizza restaurants offers ham and pineapple as a topping, and he is also known for creating an English breakfast pizza with controversial ingredients like baked beans. It seems Ramsay is willing to compromise to satisfy customers, even if he doesn’t agree with the topping himself.
