A popular Toronto pizza spot has closed its doors after less than two years in business.
Oswald’s Pizza, known for its unique take on Detroit-style pizza, was founded by Sara McCulloch and Ryan Silber. The duo first launched the business during the pandemic as a side project while their catering company, Encore, faced slowdowns due to lockdowns. Head chef McCulloch experimented with Detroit’s regional pizza style and developed a version using focaccia as the crust.
After operating out of North York for a few years, McCulloch and Silber opened a brick-and-mortar location in Chef’s Hall in 2023. The pizzeria quickly gained attention from food enthusiasts across the city.
Unfortunately, Oswald’s run was short-lived. Chef’s Hall recently announced on Instagram that the pizzeria had closed its location. The post expressed sadness at the closure, stating that Oswald’s had “turned every bite into a little slice of happiness” and left patrons with “seriously tasty memories.”
As of now, McCulloch and Silber have not responded to inquiries about the reasons behind the closure or the future of Oswald’s Pizza. It remains unclear whether the pizzeria will continue in another form.
With the closure, Chef’s Hall now has an open spot for a new concept. The food hall, located at 111 Richmond West, currently hosts 15 food and drink options, including Grandma Loves You, Pokito, and Mary’s Brigadeiro.
