Emmy Squared Pizza, known for its Detroit-style pizza, is set to open a new location in Short Pump. The pizzeria will occupy the former Burger Bach space at 2225 Old Brick Road in West Broad Village.
Emmy Squared, which first opened in New York City in 2016, serves pizza baked in a rectangular pan with cheese extending to the edges for a crispy crust. While its roots are in New York, the brand is now headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, and has expanded to multiple regions across the U.S.
The company recently applied for an ABC license for its Short Pump location and has posted job listings for a new site in Glen Allen. This move is part of the brand’s ongoing expansion. Emmy Squared currently has over 30 locations open or planned, including one in Charlottesville. The brand also announced new leadership last year to guide its growth and innovation.
Burger Bach, which closed its West Broad Village location last summer after over ten years in business, previously occupied the space. The Midlothian Burger Bach also shut down in the fall, although its Carytown location remains open.
The building at West Broad Village is owned by Shamin Hotels and is anchored by the Aloft Hotel. The lease for Emmy Squared was handled by Jim Ashby of Thalhimer and Peter Vick and Harrison Hall of Colliers.
West Broad Village has seen some restaurant turnover recently. Ford’s Garage opened in the space formerly occupied by MPM Tiki Bar, while the former Kona Grill location is now home to Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão. The old Carrabba’s space remains vacant. In 2022, most of the commercial space in West Broad Village was sold to Florida-based CTO Realty Growth.
