Pizza and trains make a perfect combination for a family outing, and you can enjoy both just two hours from the Twin Cities, MN. In Trego, Wisconsin, a small town about two hours northeast of the Twin Cities, you can hop on the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad’s famous Pizza Train.
Located in Trego, WI, which is also an hour southeast of Duluth, this family-owned railroad has been offering unique train experiences since 1997. While they offer a variety of rides, one of the most popular is the Pizza Train.
The Pizza Train offers a fun, family-friendly experience for $40 per adult and $32 per child. This two-hour ride takes you through scenic areas like farm fields, deep woods, and the Namekagon River, with a stop at the Bean Creek Trestle. During the ride, each guest gets their own pizza made fresh right on the train.
The Pizza Train operates every Saturday at noon. From mid-June to August, the train also runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
In addition to the Pizza Train, the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad offers other unique train experiences, such as a Bed and Breakfast Train ride for couples. This overnight adventure costs $499 per couple and includes accommodations, dinner, cocktails, and breakfast. They also offer a Dinner Train Ride for $95 per person, providing a 2.5-hour dining experience on the rails.
