A new Southeast Asian restaurant, Maider Kitchen, is set to open on Milwaukee’s Northwest Side. The restaurant, located at 6318 N. 76th St. inside Phongsavan Market, will offer pho, stuffed wings, pork belly, and other popular dishes.
Xiong Pao Lor, a first-time restaurateur, is behind the new venture. He named the restaurant in honor of his mother, whose love for cooking inspired him. “I’ve always loved food, and my mom loves to cook,” Lor shared. Some of Maider Kitchen’s dishes will feature recipes passed down through generations.
The menu will include a mix of Asian cuisines, such as pho from Vietnam, Hmong sausage, and Singapore-style noodles. Other options include fried pork belly, fried chicken, seasonal fish, sweet braised pork, pork belly stew with vegetables, and red curry with pork.
The restaurant will also serve appetizers like egg rolls, crab rangoon, meatball skewers, and stuffed wings, as well as sides such as sticky rice and fried rice.
Maider Kitchen is awaiting its final inspections and is expected to open soon. The 1,574-square-foot restaurant will be located in the southeast corner of Phongsavan Market, which is home to other vendors like Phongsavan Cafe and Mailee’s Cafe.
The market, originally opened by Pai Yang in 2009, became a popular community hub with over 70 vendors offering meals, produce, and more. After being sold and renamed 5XEN Super Asian Market under new ownership, plans for a $20 million expansion were halted due to legal and financial issues. Pai Yang has since regained control and is working to restore the market’s former success.
Maider Kitchen’s planned hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
