A recent survey reveals that one in seven Americans has been ordering the same pizza for over five years without changing their preferences. The poll, which surveyed 5,000 people from all 50 states, also found that the average person last strayed from their usual order two years ago.
The study, conducted by Talker Research for Tabasco Brand, also discovered that 57% of respondents are open to experimenting with new pizza combinations but are unsure where to begin. For some, adding spice may be the key. Nearly half (49%) of those surveyed agreed that spice enhances the flavor of their pizza.
States like New Mexico and Hawaii lead the nation in adding spice, with 58% of residents in each state choosing to spice up their pizza. California (55%) and Texas (53%) follow closely behind. On the other hand, Michigan and South Carolina were the least likely to add spice, with only 31% of residents in each state opting for a spicier slice.
In addition to spice preferences, the survey also highlighted regional differences in pizza habits. Michigan stood out for having the highest percentage of people (11%) who have never tried a new pizza combination. In contrast, Indiana and Vermont were the most likely to stick with their regular pizza toppings, with 95% of people in both states favoring their tried-and-true orders.
Kate Neuhaus, Director of Global Marketing Communications at McIlhenny Company, commented, “It’s interesting to see that while Americans are loyal to their pizza habits, they’re still craving new flavors. This National Hot Sauce Day, we encourage pizza lovers to add a sauce that brings both heat and flavor to their slices.”
As the survey suggests, while many Americans stay true to their pizza preferences, there’s still a growing interest in spicing things up for a more exciting pizza experience.
