As the Quarry Fire continues to burn in Jefferson County, Saucy’s Pizza shop is stepping up to support first responders. The fire, which ignited near Deer Creek Canyon on Tuesday, has scorched 480 acres and is 10% contained as of Friday afternoon. Thankfully, no structures have been lost.
TJ Wood, owner of Saucy’s Pizza, and his wife quickly realized that many in the community wanted to help. “We had a lot of people reach out, asking how they could contribute and where to bring supplies,” said Wood. “We thought it would be easier for everyone if they just brought donations here, and we could distribute them.”
Since Wednesday, the pizza shop has been collecting water, Gatorade, and nonperishable snacks. They have already delivered three van loads of supplies, along with pizza, to first responders.
“Evacuating people is tough, especially when you have to tell them, ‘You should leave your home; we don’t know if it will still be here when you return,'” Wood said. “People have enough to worry about, so they don’t need to stress about food. And who doesn’t love pizza?”
Although Wood acknowledges that he can’t solve the larger problem, he’s proud to provide a space for the community to show generosity during a difficult time.
