In celebration of World Pizza Day on February 9, online food ordering platform Yemeksepeti shared its 2024 pizza consumption data, revealing a 12% rise in pizza orders across Türkiye compared to the previous year.
The report, which highlights significant shifts in pizza preferences and consumption patterns, provides key insights into the evolving habits of Turkish pizza lovers.
Growing Number of Loyal Pizza Fans
In 2024, 17% of Yemeksepeti users ordered pizza five or more times per month, signaling a rise in dedicated pizza enthusiasts. One individual even set a remarkable record, placing 1,602 orders throughout the year—averaging 321 pizzas per month.
Chicken and Sausage Pizzas Surge in Popularity
Among the various pizza types, chicken pizza experienced the most significant growth, with a 53% increase in orders from 2023. Sausage pizza followed closely behind with a 30% rise, securing its place as the second most popular choice.
Evening and Late-Night Pizza Orders on the Rise
Yemeksepeti’s data also sheds light on peak ordering times. Orders between 18:00 and 20:00 saw an 11% increase, while a striking 22% surge in orders was recorded between midnight and 03:00, indicating a growing demand for pizza during late-night hours.
Cities Leading the Pizza Surge
Several Turkish cities saw notable increases in pizza orders in 2024. Tunceli topped the list with an impressive 89% rise, followed by Mus (82%), Kars (61%), Bilecik (57%), and Nevsehir (52%).
Medium-Sized Pizzas and Soft Drinks Remain the Favorites
Among pizza sizes, medium-sized pizzas dominated, with 62% of users opting for them. Large pizzas were less popular, comprising only 25% of orders. In terms of beverage pairings, 70% of customers continued to choose soft drinks as their go-to accompaniment.
Pizza Trends in Europe
In addition to the 2024 report, Yemeksepeti’s parent company, Delivery Hero, also released the 2025 Pizza Index for Foodora, which operates in six European countries. The data shows that Pizza Margarita remains the most popular pizza in both Türkiye and Europe. Following Margarita, pizzas topped with salami and kebab are most favored, while small-sized Margarita pizzas designed for children also make up a significant portion of orders.
In terms of affordability, Szeged, Hungary, is home to the least expensive pizzas in Europe, whereas Bergen, Norway, holds the distinction of having the priciest pizzas.
Yemeksepeti’s report offers a glimpse into the diverse and evolving pizza culture in Türkiye, with consumers showing an increasing preference for specific types, sizes, and times of day to indulge in their favorite dish.
