On February 9, as the world celebrated World Pizza Day, Yemeksepeti, one of Turkey’s most popular food delivery platforms, revealed its latest data on pizza consumption trends for 2024. The report showed a significant 12% increase in pizza orders compared to the previous year, offering a closer look into how pizza has solidified its place as a beloved dish among Turkish consumers.
The data, released to mark World Pizza Day, highlights notable changes in the way pizza is consumed. In 2024, the demand for pizza has continued to soar, making it an indispensable part of people’s dining routines. The 12% rise in orders reflects the growing popularity of pizza, which is now enjoyed across various occasions, from casual lunches to late-night cravings. Notably, 17% of Yemeksepeti users in 2024 have placed an average of five or more pizza orders per month, underscoring the dish’s versatility and its appeal to a wide demographic.
The statistics also revealed that pizza consumption is not limited to just special occasions. One Yemeksepeti user made history by placing an extraordinary 1,602 pizza orders throughout the year, setting a record that is likely to stand for some time. On a more typical level, another user achieved a peak of 321 pizza orders in a single month, demonstrating just how integral pizza has become to people’s eating habits.
Interestingly, weekends have become the prime time for pizza lovers, with orders increasing by 17% compared to weekdays. This surge indicates that many Turkish consumers now consider pizza the go-to meal for relaxation and socializing, particularly as a weekend treat.
Cities Experiencing the Fastest Growth in Pizza Orders
As the demand for pizza grows nationwide, several cities have emerged with remarkable increases in orders. In 2024, Tunceli saw the highest surge, with a staggering 89% rise in pizza orders compared to the previous year. This sharp increase places Tunceli at the top of the rankings, reflecting a shift in local dining preferences.
Following closely behind, Muş recorded an 82% increase in pizza orders, and Kars experienced a 61% growth. Other cities also showed strong growth, including Bilecik at 57% and Nevşehir at 52%. These figures suggest that pizza’s popularity is expanding well beyond Turkey’s major metropolitan areas, with smaller cities and regions now embracing the global food trend.
The cities that have seen the most significant rise in pizza orders paint a picture of evolving food preferences across Turkey. As pizza becomes an even more prominent part of Turkish dining culture, Yemeksepeti’s data provides a valuable glimpse into the changing tastes of consumers, the growing demand for convenience, and the increasing role of online food delivery services in shaping how people enjoy their meals.
This trend also reflects broader shifts in Turkey’s food industry, where pizza continues to be seen not just as a fast food option but as a versatile, beloved meal that can suit a wide range of tastes and occasions. As more people in smaller cities and towns begin to embrace pizza, it seems clear that Turkey’s pizza culture is on track to break even more records in the years to come.
