For the first time in its nearly 80-year history, Buddy’s Pizza is introducing round pizzas. Starting Monday, the renowned pizza chain will debut its “Rendezvous Rounds,” a tribute to the original Buddy’s Rendezvous Pizzeria on Detroit’s Six Mile and Conant, where the Detroit-style pizza was born in 1946.
However, fans of Buddy’s in metro Detroit will have to wait a bit longer for the round pizzas, as the new offering is currently available exclusively at two west Michigan locations: the Grand Rapids location at 4061 28th St. SE and the Portage location at 5314 S. Westnedge Ave.
“Pizza should make people happy, and we were hearing and seeing in the feedback from our customers in West Michigan, many of whom may not have grown up with our Detroit-style square pizza, that they would enjoy more style options, sizes, and price points,” said Joe Dominiak, CEO of Buddy’s Pizza. “We’re excited to offer this new variety to meet their preferences.”
Buddy’s is well-known for its Detroit-style square pizzas, which are baked in dark, deep-dish pans. A signature feature of these pizzas is the crispy, caramelized cheese crust along the edges, with the sauce placed on top.
The new round pizza options include a 10-inch ($10.49) and a 14-inch ($13.99) specialty round, available in supreme, meat lovers, or Napoli styles. Customers can also build their own pizzas starting at $8.49 for a 10-inch and $11.49 for a 14-inch, with additional toppings at extra cost. For children aged 10 and under, the Lil’ Rendezvous meal offers a 7-inch round cheese pizza, Buddy Bread, and a choice of fries, fruit, or steamed veggies for $4.99.
Buddy’s Pizza’s introduction of round pizzas is part of the company’s broader growth strategy, aiming to offer more diverse options for customers while staying true to the brand’s iconic roots.
