Sally’s Apizza, a renowned New Haven pizzeria, is set to expand its presence with a new restaurant in Norwalk, Connecticut. The new location will be inside The SoNo Collection mall and is expected to open between April and June, according to a spokesperson for the pizzeria.
Famous for its thin, crispy, and chewy New Haven-style “apizza” (pronounced “ah-beetz”), Sally’s uses custom-designed coal-fired ovens to create its signature pies, which are known for their sauce-forward flavor and distinct oven-kissed char. The restaurant has been a staple in the Elm City since its founding in 1938 by Salvatore “Sally” Consiglio, drawing pizza lovers from near and far, including notable figures such as John F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra.
Sally’s Apizza is part of New Haven’s celebrated pizza scene, often referred to as one of the “Big Three” pizzerias, alongside Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and Modern Apizza. The city’s iconic pizza culture has even led Connecticut to claim the title of “Pizza Capital of the United States,” though it remains a point of contention with neighboring New York and New Jersey pizza enthusiasts.
The Norwalk location marks the sixth Sally’s restaurant, continuing the brand’s rapid expansion across New England. The pizzeria opened its second location in Stamford in 2021, followed by Fairfield in 2022, Woburn, Massachusetts, in 2023, and Wethersfield in 2024. Additional locations are already in development, including in Farmington, Newington, and South Windsor, with further expansion planned in Massachusetts cities such as Boston, Concord, and Dorchester.
In addition to its classic pies, the new Sally’s location will feature a full bar and a menu of Italian entrees, pasta, and salads, blending its traditional roots with an elevated dining experience.
