Cornelly, a Capitol Hill pizzeria known for its popular Hornet Honey pepperoni pizza, is set to expand to Queen Anne by May or early summer, co-owner Sam Carroll announced Tuesday. The expansion will bring the beloved pizza spot to a larger audience, as the new location will take over the former Queen Anne Cafe space, offering three times the seating of the original.
Despite its success in Capitol Hill, Cornelly has remained relatively underrated outside of the neighborhood. The pizzeria, located along Summit Avenue East between Mercer and Roy, caters primarily to locals due to its limited parking and small space. However, with a dozen apartment buildings nearby, the restaurant draws a steady stream of customers, often resulting in lines forming before it opens at 5 p.m.
One of the key draws for Cornelly is its signature Hornet Honey pizza, a pepperoni pie topped with honey-roasted pineapple, basil, and chili. The pies offer a unique twist, blending the thin crust of a Neapolitan pizza with a fluffier texture similar to a New York slice, served on a sourdough flatbread base.
The new Queen Anne location, a 90-seat restaurant, will provide more visibility for the pizzeria and is situated in a neighborhood with ample street parking. In addition to a larger space, the Queen Anne kitchen will allow for an expanded menu, featuring more Italian-American entrees. Chef and co-owner Brett Phillips also plans to introduce brunch service, taking advantage of the new open-flame grill.
At the original Capitol Hill location, limited space has led to pre-batched cocktails, but the Queen Anne spot will feature a full bar with late-night service.
Cornelly regulars will still be able to enjoy their favorite dishes, such as the chicory Caesar salad and the rotating selection of pastas, including the popular rigatoni with sausage, nduja, tomato, mint, parsley, and Parmesan.
With the Queen Anne expansion, Cornelly is poised to increase its presence in Seattle’s competitive pizza scene while maintaining its focus on quality and innovation.
