A new dining concept, The Aviator, will soon take over the space previously occupied by Blackbird Pizza Shop at 7459 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. The vintage-inspired restaurant and bar, which celebrates the golden age of aviation, is slated to open in Spring 2025, according to a recent liquor license application.
Owner Alex Hill shared with What Now Los Angeles that while the exact opening date remains uncertain, the restaurant will offer a unique experience, themed around the elegance and adventure of mid-century air travel. The Aviator will serve an innovative take on American cuisine, combining classic dishes with modern flair.
In addition to its regular menu, The Aviator will host Destination Nights a few times each month, where the restaurant will transport guests to different global locales. These events will feature special regional dishes, such as Cairo Night or Amsterdam Night, offering a taste of international flavors.
Located between Umbrella taCO and 7455 SUSHI by Roshi, The Aviator joins a growing list of new dining establishments on the bustling Melrose Avenue. Hill expressed excitement about bringing the concept to the area, which benefits from high foot traffic and a vibrant retail environment, including popular businesses like Wasteland and the Zephyr Theatre.
With a number of local businesses facing closures, including Ubunto and Cookes N’ Kicks, Hill is optimistic that The Aviator’s distinctive theme will help revitalize this stretch of Melrose Avenue. Nearby, patrons can also enjoy Rocketship Coffee and the Melrose Umbrella Company, adding to the area’s appeal.
