A new dining option is on its way to downtown Huntsville, as Razzo Pizzeria prepares to open at 222 Holmes Ave. The location, steeped in local culinary history, has housed multiple eateries over the years.
Most recently, it was home to The Bakingtist, a science-themed bakery that launched in the summer of 2022 before transitioning into a baking school. The business ultimately closed in late 2024. Prior to that, the space was part of Below the Radar, a brewpub and restaurant that operated from 2012 to 2021. The site itself is housed in the historic Huntsville Times building at the corner of Holmes Avenue and Greene Street.
Now, the 3,600-square-foot venue is undergoing yet another transformation. A sign in the storefront window announces that Razzo Pizzeria is “coming soon.” The new restaurant will offer craft pizza by the slice, local beer, wine, salads, and light desserts, with a signature focus on “100% naturally leavened sourdough crust.”
The name “Razzo”—Italian for “rocket”—pays homage to Huntsville’s aerospace heritage. The pizzeria’s logo creatively incorporates a pizza-slice-shaped rocket in place of the “A” in “Razzo.” While the restaurant’s official website, is still under construction, anticipation is building for its arrival.
Razzo Pizzeria will be located next to Catch 25, a seafood restaurant and brewpub that opened in late 2022.
