Yolk Farm, located at Minskip near Boroughbridge, is set to launch a new venture: the Yolk Farm Pizza Co. The pizza restaurant will open every Friday starting April 4, from 5 PM to 9 PM, offering handcrafted, crispy wood-fired pizzas, available for both dine-in and take-away.
Business owner Emma Mosey shared that this new initiative aims to help the farm navigate rising national insurance and other operational costs, while also providing something that customers are eager to enjoy. Emma, who co-founded Yolk Farm with her husband Ben in 2017, is also the chair of the Farm Retail Association, a national body that represents farm shops and farmers’ markets across the UK. In her role, she has been advocating for diversification in the agricultural sector, encouraging farmers to seek new revenue sources to address the rising costs imposed by the government, such as national insurance, minimum wages, and changes in inheritance tax.
In response to these challenges, Emma explained that the Yolk Farm Pizza Co. was developed to expand the farm’s offerings and generate additional income, rather than cutting back on staff or compromising the quality of service. This is part of the farm’s ongoing effort to adapt and innovate, building on previous successes like the transformation of old agricultural barns into the popular Yard at Yolk play barn and the Floks wool bedding store.
Yolk Farm has become a beloved local attraction, home to alpacas, goats, pigs, and 500 free-range hens (currently under lockdown due to bird flu measures). The upcoming development of a new nursery school, which is set to open in May, is expected to further increase footfall to the site, benefiting the entire business.
Emma emphasized that Yolk Farm remains committed to maintaining its high standards and staying true to its values. “We firmly believe that cutting back on our team or diminishing the quality of our customer experience is not the right approach. Instead, we are innovating to succeed,” she said. “The Yolk Farm Pizza Co. is the latest example of this approach, allowing us to enhance our offering and generate the necessary revenue to continue supporting our team and providing a fantastic experience for our customers.”
To celebrate the launch, Yolk Farm Pizza Co. will give away 100 free pizzas on its opening Friday, April 4. In the coming months, Emma teased that an egg pizza will also be added to the menu, in keeping with the farm’s signature theme.
With its unique blend of agriculture and hospitality, Yolk Farm continues to innovate and expand, ensuring it remains a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
