Revised Padel Tennis Plans Include Demolition of Former Pizza Hut Site in Cleveleys

New proposals for a padel tennis facility in Cleveleys have emerged, involving the demolition of the former Pizza Hut building to make way for additional courts. This update comes three months after a previous plan, which aimed to retain the building as a café alongside three padel courts, received planning approval.

The former Pizza Hut premises, which have been vacant for several years, are now deemed unnecessary. The updated plans, submitted to planners on March 17, propose the construction of four padel courts, along with a smaller food and beverage unit, as well as a toilet and shower block. The new design also includes lighting, landscaping, and infrastructure, all following the demolition of the existing restaurant.

Padel tennis, a rapidly growing sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, is typically played on an enclosed court where the walls are part of the game, usually in doubles. It is gaining popularity worldwide due to its accessible and engaging nature.

The revised plans are put forward by the Property Alliance Group, the same developers behind the original proposal. According to a planning statement submitted in support of the new application, the decision to demolish the restaurant unit and add an extra court came after discussions with padel court operators, who considered the new layout more desirable.

Architects at Cube Architecture and Design, in their design and access statement, explained that the updated plans include the demolition of the former Pizza Hut building and the construction of one open padel court in its place. Additionally, three covered courts will be built in the rear parking area of the site. A prefabricated toilet, shower block, and servery will also be installed to serve the padel facility.

The applicants aim to create a high-quality recreational space that will offer significant physical and social benefits to the local community, with the facility located in a prime seaside location. The project is intended to cater to all age groups, promoting sport and wellness in the area.
