The doors are locked and the lights are off at the last remaining location of the beloved Kansas City pizza spot, d’Bronx. Located at 7070 W. 105th St. in Overland Park, the restaurant was listed as “permanently closed” on Google after customers found the doors shut just before noon on Tuesday.
Despite attempts to reach the restaurant’s owner and the property manager with The Staenberg Group, no comments were provided regarding the closure. Employees at neighboring Teriyaki Madness confirmed the restaurant had been closed since Monday.
If the closure is indeed permanent, it marks the end of a long-standing Kansas City tradition. d’Bronx, which first opened in 1990 at 39th and Bell Streets, has been a staple in the area for decades. At its peak, the restaurant had multiple locations throughout the metro, but in recent years, it had shuttered its original spot, as well as its locations at 6846 Johnson Drive in Mission and in Crown Center.
Founded by Robert and Janet Bloom, d’Bronx’s name and concept were inspired by the couple’s family ties to a deli in The Bronx. After several years, the restaurant was passed on to its last owner, Don Foringer.
Known for its signature provolone and mozzarella-topped pizza, hearty chicken noodle soup, and classic Reuben sandwiches, d’Bronx has been a go-to for many Kansas City residents. Last year, in a nod to local nostalgia, Italian restaurant Avelluto’s opened in the former d’Bronx location in Mission, reviving the spirit of another Kansas City favorite, Italian Delight.
As the d’Bronx chapter closes, many will remember it as a cherished part of Kansas City’s dining history.
