Kansas City Man Sues Nicky’s Pizza and Three Individuals Over Alleged Assault

by Emma

A Kansas City man has filed a lawsuit against Nicky’s Pizza in the Northland, its owner, and three individuals, accusing them of involvement in an assault that took place inside the restaurant. The lawsuit claims the restaurant’s employees aided the alleged assailants in escaping and misled police during the investigation.

Robert Johnson is suing Christopher Stills, Jeffery Adams, and Timothy Coffer for their roles in the assault, which occurred on January 18 at Nicky’s Pizza. The restaurant’s owner, Nicholas Haug, is also named in the suit. Johnson alleges that the three men assaulted him after an argument in the restaurant, and that employees, including Coffer’s daughter, assisted the assailants by helping them leave the premises before police arrived. Additionally, the lawsuit claims that the employees told authorities they did not know the individuals involved in the assault.

According to the lawsuit, Johnson was sitting with two companions at the restaurant around 8:30 p.m. when the three men, who were reportedly intoxicated, were seated at a nearby table. Adams allegedly made inappropriate comments toward one of Johnson’s companions, prompting a verbal exchange between the two tables. Coffer then allegedly approached Johnson’s table, grabbed him by the shirt with enough force to rip it, and began pushing and hitting him. Johnson reportedly pushed back in self-defense, but was then “held and immobilized” by Coffer and Adams while Stills allegedly punched him repeatedly in the face.

The lawsuit claims the trio worked together to assault Johnson and only ceased when they were informed that police had been called. Johnson was subsequently thrown out of the restaurant, while employees reportedly helped the three men escape through a back door before law enforcement arrived. The lawsuit also states that the men are regular patrons at the pizza shop.

Johnson sustained significant injuries, including “severe, permanent, progressive, serious, and disabling injuries, disfigurement, and scarring,” the lawsuit alleges. Additionally, Johnson’s clothing was torn and stained with blood, and his cellphone was stolen during the altercation.

Kansas City police were dispatched to the restaurant following reports of a large fight involving up to 15 people. The incident report, which has been mostly redacted due to the ongoing investigation, indicates that officers responded to a disturbance inside the establishment.

Johnson is seeking a jury trial and is requesting “damages that are fair and reasonable” for the injuries and losses he sustained in the alleged assault. Neither Johnson’s attorney nor restaurant owner Nicholas Haug responded to requests for comment.
