A popular New York cheesesteak concept, G’s Cheesesteaks, has officially opened its doors in Dallas, marking its first location in Texas. The restaurant occupies the former Sal’s Pizza space at 2525 Wycliff Ave., a site with its own foodie legacy. G’s Cheesesteaks opened in early March, joining four other locations across New York and New Jersey.
The concept is the brainchild of Giacomo Pisano, a restaurateur who founded G’s Cheesesteaks on Staten Island in 2015 at the age of 20. The restaurant is part of a family tradition that began with Pisano’s grandfather, Giacomo Sr., who emigrated from Carini, Sicily, and opened a pizzeria in New York. His father, Jack, continued the family’s pizza legacy, along with Pisano’s uncles who ran their own pizzerias in New York City and Pennsylvania.
G’s Cheesesteaks specializes in Philly-style sandwiches, including a classic cheesesteak made with fried onions, Cooper sharp cheese, and cheese wiz. In addition to the traditional option, the menu offers 11 different varieties, such as the Mike’s Hot Honey steak, which includes pepperoni, sliced steak, bacon, and cheese wiz. For vegetarians, there’s a veggie version featuring fried onions, peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, marinara sauce, and cheese.
The sandwiches are served on sesame seed-topped long rolls, baked in-house daily. Prices range from $10 for a half sandwich to $18 for a full prime rib or cutlet sandwich. In addition to cheesesteaks, the menu features appetizers like fried mac and cheese bites, smash burgers, chicken tenders, wings, fries, and onion rings, with customizable options like black truffle or BBQ sauce and cheddar. The restaurant also offers milkshakes and a selection of alcohol, including beer and wine on tap.
The Dallas location is owned by Enoc Soltani, a local entrepreneur with a decade of experience in the hospitality and restaurant industry. Before opening G’s Cheesesteaks, Soltani worked as a general manager and junior partner at Nick & Sam’s steakhouse. This venture marks his first restaurant. Soltani, a close friend and business partner of Pisano, was inspired by Pisano’s vision and the restaurant’s growth.
“Giacomo has been coming to Dallas for the past three or four years, talking about opening here, and we decided to take the leap,” Soltani said. “I believed in him and his vision, so it made sense to open in a city I know well. We’re elevating fast food, but we still focus on delivering a high level of hospitality.”
The former Sal’s Pizza location was also appealing due to its longstanding presence in the community. Sal’s Pizza closed after 42 years due to rising rent costs. Sal Jakova, the previous owner, has since opened a stand at the Maple Street Food Hall at 4711 Maple Ave. Soltani, who had developed a personal connection with Jakova, was drawn to the location’s significance.
“We love this spot and have seen the area grow over the years,” Soltani said. “It meant a lot to me to take over this location as my flagship store, especially knowing the community and Sal’s loyal customers. It just felt like the right place to be.”
