After nearly 2,400 votes and intense competition, the bracket for the best pizza in Akron has come down to just two pizzerias: Luigi’s and DeCheco’s. Both restaurants have earned their spot in the final round, and now it’s up to the voters to decide who will take home the title of Akron’s best pizza.
Luigi’s, a local institution since 1949, has long been known for its generous cheese portions and timeless appeal. As a staple of the Akron dining scene, Luigi’s has garnered a dedicated following over the years. Meanwhile, DeCheco’s, a newer contender with three locations in the Akron area, has wowed pizza enthusiasts with its creative, unconventional toppings, such as Doritos and pickles. The relatively fresh face in Akron’s pizza world has proven that it’s more than just a trendy spot by reaching the final two in this highly competitive race.
The path to the final has been an eventful one for both pizzerias. In the semifinals, Luigi’s faced off against Fiesta Pizza and Chicken, and while Luigi’s initially enjoyed a comfortable lead of 64-36%, Fiesta made an impressive comeback. By the time voting ended, Fiesta had closed the gap to just 4 percentage points, securing 48% of the vote. Despite this, Luigi’s managed to hold on to its lead, finishing with 52% of the vote—just over 100 votes ahead of Fiesta.
Now, with only one round of voting left, Akron pizza fans are tasked with determining which pizzeria deserves the ultimate title. Will Luigi’s long-standing reputation and signature cheesy slices be enough to secure the win? Or will DeCheco’s innovative toppings and fresh approach to pizza take the crown?
Voting for the final round runs through Sunday at midnight, so there’s still time to have your say in this heated battle. The winner will be announced on April 8, and it’s sure to be a momentous occasion for whichever pizzeria comes out on top.
Make sure to cast your vote and check back next week to see who will be crowned the best pizza in Akron.
